Left for dead...dog rescued after being dumped at water pumping station
4:15pm Thursday 4th October 2012 in News
AN abandoned dog has been rescued after it was found wasting away inside a fenced off water pumping station.
Council officers believe the dog had been thrown over the fence into the secure compound surrounding the station in Merton Bank, St Helens.
Dog welfare teams and police had to use bolt cutters to free the trapped animal.
The emaciated, female cross-breed, which was spotted by a member of the public, spent the night at a local vet’s where she was given antibiotics to help recover from her ordeal.
However St Helens Council's Dog Welfare and Enforcement Service say she is responding to treatment and getting stronger every day.
Principal Environmental Health Officer Diane Foreman said: “She was wet, shivering and around half the weight she should be when we found her, but now she’s managing to keep solid food down.
“We’ll be looking after her for the next few days and keeping a close eye on her before hopefully finding her a new home.”
