A JURY was considering a verdict yesterday in the case of a man charged with murdering his neighbour.

Paul Lyon, 46, is accused of deliberately knifing Heather Dyer, 22, to death outside flats in Chapel Street, where they were neighbours.

The prosecution alleges Lyon attacked her with a fish filleting knife following a dispute over noise coming from her flat.

Lyon has claimed he acted in self defence and had forgotten he had hold of the knife when the confrontation happened at about 2.40am on Saturday, July 23 last year. He also faces a charge that he attempted to murder Miss Dyer's friend, William Taylor.

The two week trial concluded on Monday and the jury was still deliberating on Wednesday as the Star went to press.
