HELENA Homes has helped a mother-of-three achieve her dream of owning a hair and beauty salon.

Kerrie Tarpey, 35, from Thatto Heath, had always wanted to train as a hairdresser and beautician.

However, due to finance issues and the time pressures of raising her family, Kerrie’s dream seemed short-lived until she approach Helena Homes’ Developing Active Neighbourhoods (DAN) team.

The team, along with the National Careers Service, helped Kerrie to schedule her training around family commitments.

Helena’s partnership also helped Kerrie financially by providing the funds needed towards her hairdressing equipment.

That was in 2010, and now, two years on, after undergoing training in St Helens and London, Kerrie’s dream has come true, and she is the proud owner of Bellissimo Hair and Beauty Salon.

Kerrie said: “I’ve always wanted to be a hairdresser, so I’m loving every minute of running my own salon and being independent.

“I’m really grateful to Helena and my tutors at St Helens college for all their support. Without them I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

Kerrie started at the salon last year as a voluntary worker to complete her course. She has since become the owner, and has been in charge since April.

Regeneration manager of DAN at Helena, Mark Jory said: “Kerrie is proof anybody can make their dreams come true if they’re prepared to work hard enough.

“Helena was able to provide the advice and funding required, helping her get started on the career ladder, and she’s gone from strength to strength.”
