Sledgehammer gang set off fireworks during Costco robbery

A GANG of robbers stormed into a store armed with sledgehammers before setting off fireworks and then fleeing with jewellery.

The five men - dressed in white boiler suits, with their faces covered - targeted the Costco on Andover Road, Haydock, at about 8.30pm on Friday (September 14).

They set off a number of fireworks inside and were also armed with crowbars.

They broke into display cases and snatched jewellery, leaving staff terrified.

A blue Volkswagen Golf - believed to have been used by the robbers – was found abandoned nearby. It is undergoing forensic examinations.
