ST HELENS Concert Band is celebrating 40 years since its rebirth in 1972.

Earlier this year the band received £10,000 from a Heritage Lottery grant to research and record the band’s history.

It has now traced its origin back to 1859 to the Ravenhead Brass Band. The band’s full history has been recorded on DVD which will be available later this year at all the town’s libraries.

On Saturday, October 27, the band will celebrate its anniversary with a spectacular concert at St Helens Town Hall, with guests, Cowley International College Singers.

All former band members are invited to attend. Any ex-members should get in touch with John Henderson on 01744 309274 or use the contact form on the band’s website www.sthelensconcertband.co.uk.

All are welcome to the concert. Tickets are £5, £4 children and OAPs. Reserve tickets by calling Keith Owens on 0151 724 5563.
