Arson attack damages changing rooms
9:27am Friday 7th September 2012 in News By St Helens Star newsdesk
ARSONISTS set fire to a wheelie bin, before pushing it against a portable cabin, which was used as a changing room.
Firefighters were called out to the blaze on Browns Field, Carr Lane in Prescot at around 10.28pm, last night (Thursday, September 6).
Watch Manager Chris Howarth, from Huyton fire station said: “We managed to contain the fire and stop it spreading to the other two changing rooms.
“It was a portable cabin divided into three changing rooms. While we are dealing with deliberate ignitions like this, we are unavailable for more important calls when people could be at risk and need saving.
“These fires also have quite an impact on the local community as this part of the changing room will not be able to be used for quite a while.”
Around a quarter of the changing room was severely damaged by fire and it took fire crews just less than an hour to put it out.
