AS they geared up to take on the Turkish wheelchair basketball team in the quarter finals of the Paralympics, one of the stars of the GB side, St Helens born Dan Highcock chatted to the Star.

The 30-year-old from Dentons Green expects the Turks to raise their game as the competition gets fiercer.

Dan, a former Cowley High pupil said: “We are going in very confident. We are playing a lot better than them at the moment, especially in our last three games.

“Now we just have to take care of business.

“It’s set up really well. If we win, we expect to face Canada in the semi-final and that’s another one we can win.”

Dan, who plays professional basketball for BSR Valladolid in Spain, said the Paralympic experience has been phenomenal: “The noise and buzz about the place is unbelievable. When you’re on court, you can hear a massive roar.”
