Fire crews tackle blaze at industrial site

FIREFIGHTERS are tackling a blaze in St Helens this afternoon.

Six fire engines, more thna 20 firefighters and police are at the scene at industrial land off Burtonhead Road, Ravenhead.

Smoke could be seen billowing into the skies above the town centre this afternoon.

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were calld at 4.38pm to land off Ravenhead Road, St Helens to reports a large amount of rubbish and waste was on fire, which was affecting a building nearby, measuring 20 x 60 metres.

"Access has been gained to the building and firefighters are searching for possible acetylene cylinders."

Road closures are in place.
