Former mayor to launch the Hargreaves Dementia Trust

DURING his year as Mayor of St Helens, Tom Hargreaves dedicated himself to fundraising for a cause, which was very close to his heart.

His hard work has now come to fruition with the launch of The Hargreaves Dementia Trust, set up after his wife of 50 years, Elsie, battled the illness before her death in April, 2010.

The trust will help people with dementia and their families and carers in St Helens.

The official launch of the trust will take place at The Mansion House, Victoria Park on Wednesday, September 12.

Members of the trust have extensive and personal experience in caring for people with dementia.

Its aim is to provide information, advice and guidance, promote the health, well-being and independence of people with dementia and raise awareness through training programmes for carers.

Those attending the launch will be treated to a hotpot lunch and have the opportunity to hear about the group’s ambitions.

They have extended an invitation to those who can contribute thoughts and ideas to help the care for people with the illness and their families.
