Striding out on 3 Saints challenge
11:00am Friday 31st August 2012 in News By Dave Humphreys
A TEAM of energetic fundraisers will walk 216 miles across eight days as part of ‘The 3 Saints Challenge’ and are asking St Helens residents to take part.
The 3 Saints Challenge is a unique walking event happening this September to help raise funds for both Tunza’s Pride & Cash for Kids.
A squad of six will walk the full 216 miles, starting at St Albans FC in Hertfordshire before heading to Northampton Saints RFC and finishing at the home of St Helens RLFC – Langtree Park.
The aim of the challenge is to raise funds to create a social centre in St Helens, which would offer leisure and sporting opportunities for young people, as well as a cafe and entertainment activities.
Tunza has teamed up with Radio City and their charity, Cash for Kids, in the hope that they can raise a target amount of £10,000.
Organisers are keen to recruit walkers to register and raise funds by taking part in the final stage of the challenge – from the Radio City tower in Liverpool to Langtree Park – a journey totalling 16 miles. There is also an option to walk the first four miles to Walton Hall Sports Centre or join the group at Windle Island for the final four miles.
For the final day, Saturday September 22, Tunza have recruited chef and TV presenter Simon Rimmer and Radio City DJ Simon Ross to join the group.
‘Tunza’ is the Swahili word for “caring for” and the ethos of the group is the care and welfare of everyone in the community, especially vulnerable children and young people.
Their work stretches throughout the St Helens borough, as well as the whole of the North West.
Registration to enter is £20 per adult and £10 per child under 16 years if supervised by a parent/guardian also taking part.
