‘Thanks from our Jasper’

THE owner of a dog mauled by an Akita says she has been overwhelmed by the response from well-wishers, after reading her story in the Star.

Pensioner Rita Gavin could only watch in terror as the powerful Japanese breed pounced on her pet Jasper as they walked along Ellamsbridge Road in Sutton.

The eight-year-old terrier suffered horrific bite wounds to his back.

The 75-year-old said: “I can’t believe the reaction. Everybody has been asking about him. Taxi drivers have stopped me to see if he’s ok. It’s been really good. Everyone at the Little Pig pub, close to where Jasper was attacked, said they are right behind me. People are asking me what’s being done about it.

“But I’m still terrified to take him out. And I’m still seeing dogs off leads. It’s ridiculous.”
