Police appeal to find £3,000 bike that was stolen by burglars
3:00pm Tuesday 21st August 2012 in News
BURGLARS stole this mountain bike worth almost £3,000 after breaking into a garage.
The dark grey Kona Delux bike was among several items taken from the property on Rochester Gardens, Toll Bar.
The thieves also broke into the 41-year-old victim’s green Mercedes Vito van parked on the drive.
They took a blue Makita radio and a Bosch power drill before forcing open the garage door and stealing a Stihl saw, the bike and a GT Avalanche mountain bike, which is also worth a significant amount.
The morning after the burglary, the homeowner discovered items from his garage and van strewn across the street.
Detectives from St Helens CID believe that more than one offender was involved and they left the scene either on foot, or used the stolen mountain bike to escape.
They are appealing for anyone seen a mountain bike like the one pictured, being ridden around St Helens or Knowsley, or have been offered a bike like this for sale in suspicious circumstances, to call the police.
Detective Constable Roy Waller said: "The victim is understandably very upset that this has happened and rightly wants to get as many of his belongings back as possible.
“The Kona mountain bike in particular is very important to him and because it is so distinctive and professional looking.
“I am sure people will remember if they seen it. I would urge them to call me if they have so that we can re-unite it with its rightful owner."
The burglary happened in the early hours of Tuesday, July 31. Call St Helens CID on 0151 777 6842 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
A 15-year-old boy from Rainhill in Prescot was arrested on August 17 on suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
