Tour de France and Olympic time trial champion Bradley Wiggins will compete in cycling's Tour of Britain, which will ride through St Helens next month.
The London 2012 hero will be among cyclists will enter the borough in Garswood on the afternoon of Monday, September 10.
They will travel from Billinge Road to Newton Road into Billinge and head down Main Street then onto Rainford Road towards Crank.
The route heads to Higher Lane Rainford and onto Ormskirk Road and the Rainford By Pass before leaving the borough for Knowsley Safari Park.
Wiggins has been given extra time off by Team Sky following his hugely successful summer and is not participating in the Tour of Denmark next week.
His return to competitive action is now set to come on home soil in the eight-stage Tour of Britain event, which begins in Ipswich on September 9.
Wiggins made the announcement as he launched the inaugural 'Ride with Brad' mass participation public cycling event in Barnoldswick, Lancashire.
When asked what his next plans were, Wiggins said: "I'm doing the Tour of Britain now.
"It'll be nice. I'll try to stay fit between now and then so I don't embarrass myself! It'll be good."
St Helens Council has informed schools along the route of the timing of the race and pupils may line the streets to cheer them.

And once again, the roads of St Helens will be closed off to tax paying motorists and business's will be penalised, though no doubt the Council will be issuing their usual statement about how this will bring money to the town and fill it with tourists and shoppers, will be issued later next week.
Remember watching the 'Tour of Britain' coming through Garswood in the past and it is an amazing sight! There is a convoy of advertising vehicles of all shapes and sizes that go through ahead of the cyclists and it is a real experience to see the 'Peleton'.
By the way it does not actually travel through St Helens Town Centre,so stop moaning and enjoy a great event travelling through our Borough!

Little point on paying endless tax for the privilege of being able to use a motorised vehicle on our roads when it's one road closure after another and when it's not for urgent repairs but merely to entertain some enthusiast of a minority sport.
The Stage starts in Nottingham on that day and ends at the Safari Park and 1000's will line the route and it is an honour for it to come through our Town!

Since Wiggo won the wycling wace the number of cycling swarms clogging up the roads at the weekends has become mad as a box of frogs.
I live on the route mentioned above. I'll be there cheering on the cyclists. Actually I won't. I'll be in work.

Great cyclist as he is though, the Olympics is now over and Bradley is a Wigan supporter. I'm not supporting someone who supports the Pie eaters.
