Scouts step up for teenage cancer team

THERE were awards galore at the recent St Helens Scouts annual meeting in the Town Hall, when Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers received top accolades for each of their sections.

The youngsters worked really hard to get their Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum awards and were lucky enough to have them presented by guest of honour Mayor of St Helens, Councillor Geoff Almond.

The Mayor thanked the Scouts for his invitation but also thanked the leaders for all the hours they gave to Scouting and said that borough would be a much poorer place without them.

Each year at their AGM, St Helens Scouts make a charitable donation and this year they presented a cheque for £1,350 to Sian Day, the regional fundraiser for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Accepting the cheque Sian said: “Teenage Cancer Trust relies on voluntary donations to continue its vital work, and it’s thanks to the support of local organisations like St Helens Scouts that we are able to do so.

"I would like to say huge well done to all involved in raising such a fantastic amount to help transform the lives of young people with cancer.”Visit www.teenagecancertrust.org to find out more.
