Garry goes to great lengths for hospital
WHEN Garry Woolnough plunges into the pool for his sponsored swim each stroke will hold special significance.
The 47-year-old double amputee will be raising the cash for the hospital which saved his life when he was a baby.
Garry contracted a blood disorder as a baby. He was admitted to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, where he was given six months to live.
However due to his illness, doctors were forced to remove two limbs.
The grandfather of eight from Haresfinch Road said: “Even though I was given only months to live, I’m still here. At seven months old I had my left leg amputated below the knee and my right arm below the elbow.
“I will be attempting to do between 50 and 100 lengths of Queens Park baths. I’m in the process of getting sponsorship and it’s coming along fine.”
Garry will tackle the sponsored swim on Friday, August 24
