Ed Clancy well set at omnium halfway stage
10:01am Sunday 5th August 2012 in News
ED Clancy remains in contention for another Olympic medal at the halfway stage of the men's omnium.
The 27-year-old, who lives in Newton-le-Willows, was in fifth place overnight in the six-discipline event.
He made a terrific start to the competition - the morning after striking gold with in the team pursuit - by winning the 'flying lap'.
He then finished 11th in the points race before taking fifth spot in the elimination.
It leaves him seven points off the leader, going in to today's three events.
Last night he wrote on his Twitter account: "As per the script, was a mixed day1 in the omnium! Thanks for every message of support and shout from the crowd. Ill try scrape a medal yet!"
Action in the velodrome takes place from 10am and later this evening.
