Victim was dragged round like a rag doll

A VIOLENT man dragged his partner around like "a rag doll" and smashed her ribs by jumping on her as she lay helpless on the floor.

Jailing him for two years four months a judge at Liverpool Crown Court told Lee Gornall his actions "reflect a disgraceful course of conduct."

The victim’s lung was punctured as a result and she was taken to hospital gasping for breath after the drunken attack.

Gornall, 34, had been ordered to keep away from his partner in 2008 after earlier alleged attacks on her but they were again living together when a row broke out which led to his fury, Peter Hussey, prosecuting, told Liverpool Crown Court.

In the early hours of March 30 this year they were at their home in Canberra Avenue, Thatto Heath having a curry with a couple of friends.

An argument began after Gornall accused her of being unfaithful and he then launched into the attack.

The victim was found to have broken ribs on the left side, a punctured lung, bruising to her arms and neck but did not need surgery.

Louise McCloskey, defending, said that Gornall, who pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm and has previous convictions for violence, has been making good progress while in prison on remand.
