Poet John is Best of Fest prize winner

WORDSMITHS from the region flocked to the Fifth Annual Poetry Fest competition staged by St Helens College at the town centre campus.

John Roberts from Fingerpost was the winner of this year’s competition, and received the Best of Fest award donated by The World of Glass.

The glass trophy is awarded to the best poem read on the day of the festival.

John received the award for the reading of his poem Have We Got What We Need.

Poetry competition winners were joined at the event by guest poet Peter Clawson, who travelled from Lincolnshire to entertain the audience with his unique style of poetry.

Sue Gerrard, poet in residence at St Helens College, who organises the event, gave a reading of her work.

John said: “I was delighted to receive the Best of Fest award, and enjoyed meeting the other competition winners and poet Peter Clawson.

“It was a great feeling to stand up in public and give a reading of my poem, and I am pleased it was well received by the judging panel.” Elaine Stanley, assistant principal at St Helens College, presented John with his award.
