Dumped dog 'had been stabbed'

A DOG found collapsed in the street had been stabbed several times.

Dog wardens were alerted earlier today (Friday, July 27) when neighbours at Ashtons Green in Parr discovered the animal - weak and in pain - slumped on a field at the Duckeries.

Remarkably the blue grey crossbreed lurcher/greyhound survived and is now in holding kennels.

After examining the dog’s other injuries, wardens believe that it may have been used for hunting. It is believed to be around four to five years old and is not microchipped.

St Helens Council is appealing that anyone who knows the dog and its owner, to come forward, so a proper investigation can be carried out.

Information will be reported to the RSPCA, in the hope that it will result in criminal proceedings.

Wardens describe the dog as friendly, despite its terrible trauma.

It will be re-homed in a week via Leigh Cats and Dogs centre to a home without any other animals and where it can be treated with care and attention.

If you have any information call 01744 676789 or 675823.

Completely dispicable act to treat a dog in this way. Hope that the person responsible is caught soon and feels the full weight of the law rather than a mere slap of the wrist. I hope also that the dog ends up with a good home and caring owner.

I really and truly hope that the "person" who did this to such a lovely dog gets it back in spades. Hopefully we will read next week of him/her being found on the Duckery after a mighty fine beating. Animal cruelty is only perpetuated by the lowest of the low.

Disgusting, it's time for the microchipping of all dogs to be mandatory with a fine for anyone caught with an 'unchipped' dog.

This is just beyond words. It really does make you wonder what kind of 'people' we are living amongst in our town. Someone somewhere will know something and I hope the responsible creatures are caught. I'm so glad this lovely dog is doing okay now and I really hope it does go to an exceptional new home.

how horrible are these people/person responsible. i am a dog owner and i would never hurt my pet, i hope you who are responsible get caught named and shamed. there is no excuse at all for what you did. i would like to meet you with my dog and let her put the fear of god in you, so i could watch you cry like a big useless coward that you obviously are. u should be made to walk the streets with a board telling everyone you are a cruel and evil scumbag.

how cruel are these people, i would love to meet you with my dog whom i adore and let her pin you to the floor and watch you cry and plead. you should be named and shamed, i would make you walk the streets with a banner telling everyone what a cruel heartless piece of cack you are. you make me sick getting your kicks out of attacking a deffensless animal. i hope you dont have any elderly or young children in your care. and i hope the police catch up with you. perhaps you should see your doctor to refer you to a phyciatrist because you are obviously deranged.

Unfortunately it is not unusual for some people to steal this type of dog to use for hunting or lamping, they also possess scanners and remove chips. there have been alerts about this on many social media dog rescue sites. Hopefully he has a real owner who comes forward to claim him :(

I am disgusted and appalled by the callous act inflicted on this poor dog. How can anyone inflict this on a poor defenceless and probably loyal companian. I hope the person who did this gets whats coming to them and more besides. They are nothing but SCUM. If they no longer wanted/needed the animal there are plenty of rescue centres etc that would have taken it in. I am a dog owner myself and only for having 2 dogs I would enquire about having this one. Lets hope it finds its forever home soon.
