THE long trip to Durham led to a resounding victory for Haydock’s Valley Brass Band in a North East brass band contest.

The band was awarded prizes for Best 4th Section Band and second band overall and shared top marks for their soloist’s performance.

Councillor Keith Deakin, chairman and a trustee of Valley Brass said: “The band played magnificently on the day, putting in a top performance in all the four pieces they played and receiving rapturous applause from the large audience.

“Every player put maximum effort into their performance and were rewarded at the end with a share of the silverware.”

This was the second visit to Durham by Valley Brass Band, who in 2011 also achieved fantastic results.
