IF you thought the Tour de France was the toughest bike event on the planet... think again!

Four men from a leading St Helens company have set their sights on completing the epic Land's End to John O' Groats slog in a non-stop relay… in under three days.

But that's not the only target for the team led by Richard Potter, managing director of Ena Shaw.

The relay riders including Martin Potter, Stewart Dwyer and Adrian Lomas are asking Star readers to back their pedal mission by donating generously as they blast away the long miles.

All cash raised will be going to Willowbrook Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Care, their two specially adopted charities nominated by their staff.

LINKED in with this challenge, one lucky Star reader will win a £500 Ena Shaw curtain voucher to be spent at the Duke Street furnishing store.

The competition is Ena Shaw’s way of helping raise awareness of the LEJOG challenge.

QUESTION: How many miles is the Ena Shaw Land's End to John O' Groats charity relay challenge?

Closing date is July 5, 2012. Newsquest competition rules apply, log on to www.newsquest.co.uk/terms

They set up a charity team nine months ago with the ambitious target of raising £10,000 by the end of 2012, but incredibly their 200-plus workers have already topped this figure. Richard said: "I’m really proud of what has been achieved so far.

“But we decided it was our turn to do our bit for these two amazing charities which touch the lives of so many people here in St Helens.

"Now we’re trying to raise another £10,000... so we have a long way to go in more ways than one!

“We will take it in turns to ride our bikes all the way up the country without any stops, covering the 900 miles. We are attempting to finish it in around 55 hours.

"It’s a proper challenge– there's more than 6,000ft of climbing before we even get to Taunton!”

Depending on the weather the Ena Shaw team aim to mount their bid to complete the 'Lejog', as it's affectionately known, this Friday starting from Land's End.

Providing back-up during the attempt is 'masterchef' and driver Billy Lindsay who will be dishing up the porridge each morning and making sure the guys are taking in plenty of calories and keeping their fluid levels up.

As they clock up the miles, Star readers can keep tabs on how far the riders have reached, how many calories they are burning... and even more importantly... how quickly the cash is rolling in.

Richard added: “We’re not doing this just for the fun of it. We want people to donate as much as possible. Every £191 we raise pays for one Macmillan Nurse for one day.”
