A HAIR salon hopes to ensure one torchbearer stands head and shoulders above the rest when the Olympic Flame arrives in St Helens this Friday (June 1).
Shimmers, on Boundary Road, is hoping to capitalise on the wave of patriotic fervour that is expected to accompany the Diamond Jubilee celebrations and London 2012 Olympics.
Hairdressers there are attaching red, white and blue ponytails and other extensions to clients who are keen to fly the flag in a wacky way.
Among those to sign up for the special treatment is Natalie Corrigan, the 23-year-old cheerleading coach from Thatto Heath, who will carry the Olympic Torch through St Helens.
Shimmers owner Lynne Webster, 47, from Billinge said: “We have all kinds of designs and think it is a great way for people to celebrate the Olympics and the Diamond Jubilee.
“Who knows maybe we’ll get a couple of Team GB members who fancy a special look for the Games.”
