SELLING organic muesli on the stalls of farmers markets must seem like a world away from mixing it with the toughest packs in rugby league – but it is sideline that Saints prop Josh Perry is happy to pursue.

The big prop and his partner Bonnie Stedman have become something of a regular fixture at stalls for the past six months - selling their own brand of organic muesli.

Now Fir Tree Farm in Kings Moss has become the first shop to stock Bon Bon’s All Natural Muesli – and Perry is hoping it will take off from there.

Perry said: “Bonnie’s dad, Shane, has been cooking this recipe for 50 years.

“It is all organic and sourced as locally as possible with no artificial preservatives or sugar in it.

“We have been selling it most weekends at farmers markets but now we have got it into our first shop we will be looking to expand from there.

“Although I train on Saturday mornings, most weekends I do one market with Bonnie.

“It is just another interest. I am getting to the end of my career and if this takes off, who knows?”

Customers will be able to buy the product from the couple’s stall at Fir Tree Farm, Farmers Market this Saturday from 9.30am till 1pm.

As an interesting aside, Bonnie’s father was the man who invented Ugg Boots in Australia back in 1973 – before signing away the rights in 1983 for around £10,000.

Perry said: “They (the manufacturers) are making about £500m a year now – but Shano is happy and has had a great life.”
