Vote now to help Earlestown market be Britain's best

A BUSTLING market, which some say has been ignored in recent years, has been nominated to be the best of British.

Earlestown Market has been nominated by St Helens Council for the title of Britain’s Market of the Year title, but needs your vote.

To cast your vote go to nabma.com/vote, click on the stall logo in the top right hand corner, type in Earlestown and click submit.

Cllr Andy Bowden, cabinet member for urban regeneration and housing, said: “This competition has historically been won by street markets, which always prove to be vibrant and popular, and are therefore easy targets for the judging panel.

“Earlestown is a traditional market. and for many years has been overlooked by this type of competition.

“Please help our fight to highlight Earlestown Market and show the market industry that these types of markets still exist. If you all cast your vote it will make a huge difference.”

The more votes which are registered, the more chances the market will have to get extra funding from the council for things such as permanent road signs, an upgrade of the obelisk and the finishing off the new stalls. The deadline for voting is December 31.

Is this Andy Bowden for real, first he doesnt like us calling the town poundland, and now this. The market isw now dead in Earlestown and for good reasons..Their are now less shops in the little shopping are than a couple of years ago, and shoppers want them as well as a market. As for voting, no way, their are HUNDREDS of markets around this country that would beat Earlestown hands down.

i think andy bowden needs to have a long hard look at earlestown, its a shambles all its fit for is drunks and druggies.every other shop is either a takeaway shop or a sunbed shop, taxi or charity shop.every one thinks more of sthelens than earlestown, its a dump copared to st helens in regards to shops and the clean streets etc.the council does nothing for the town, they think more of the flea market on a saturday and then they cant even clean the mess up properly a total shambles.

Yes and we pay a fortune in council tax for the privelage..
Earlestown market at one time was the best market in the country beleive it or not.
St Helens council are a JOKE.
Maybe if they gave the shops a reduction in business rates it would allow us to have decent shops, then more people would come to the town.
One shop which closed recently(no names mentioned) was actually paying for rent and business rates £42,000 per yr,thats before they bought any stock.
How the hell are they supposed to survive,...

I have voted. As the poster above says it was once one of the best in the country and certainly in the North West. Earlestown market could be great again and help to add some life to the shops which are struggling Ok so the council and Labour are a joke but this is at least something in the right direction. St Helens is recognising Earlestown exists which is a start.

£42k per year!!!

Absolutely unbelievable and they wonder why there are no jobs. Small businesses are britains biggest employers by far and they are having their hearts ripped out.
