A LIBRARY is to close from this weekend as part of a major refurbishment that will create a hi-tech computer hub.

Thatto Heath library will shut from noon on Saturday (October 1) and is unlikely to reopen until next year, says St Helens Council.

Extensive work will see the installation of a wi-fi network, 29 PCs (including 12 Apple Macs), special children’s laptops and three plasma screens.

But council bosses say traditional library users have not been forgotten.

An extensive new book stock will be in place, ready for the reopening early in the new year.

The transformed library will also feature new lighting and dedicated zones for children and teenagers.

A community room will be created for adult learning courses.

A council spokesman said: “Thatto Heath Library users will be made welcome at any of the borough’s other 12 libraries while the work takes place.”
