A CHARITY event is being held to support blind and partially sighted people.

Gill Dixon has organised a go walkies sponsored walk for Guide Dogs.

Gill, aged 36, of Cooper Lane, Haydock, said: “There are loads of ways people can get involved. Sign up with your own dog, borrow a dog, share a dog or even dress up as a dog and get sponsored as your doggy alias.

“I’ve chosen to support Guide Dogs because I think the life-changing independence their work gives to thousands of blind and partially-sighted people is amazing.”

Gill has been writing a ‘dog blog’ since giving a home to Peggy, a cross whippet and German Shepherd, from an animal sanctuary, seven years ago.

She said: “I write Peggy’s diary, everything she does from a dog’s point of view and Guide Dogs spotted it. I’ve supported them ever since.

“I love the work they do.”

Registration for the walk is at 10.30am on Saturday, May 28, at Sankey Valley Visitors Centre, Blackbrook Road, St Helens WA11 0AB.

The guide dog service receives no Government or social services funding, and relies entirely on donations.

There are around 4,500 guide dog partnerships across the UK.
