POLICE have shutdown a second suspected sex den in the space of 24 hours.

Officers today used new legislation to close another suspected brothel at 6 Victoria Road, Newton-le-Willows.

A man and a woman in their 60s, from Manchester, are being interviewed under police caution tonight.

Yesterday officers swooped to close a suspected brothel at property D2, on the Eastside Industrial Estate on Jackson Street.

The double swoop follows detailing planning by officers.

Chief Inspector Keith McLachlan said: "As with yesterday, our investigation has focused on those who are making large profits from the running of suspected brothels, and not the women who work there.

"This establishment has caused concern to the local community and our action in the last two days should act as reassurance that Merseyside Police will use all forms of legislation to improve the quality of life for local residents.”
