ALL those long hours revising have paid off for A-level students across St Helens after a provisional A-E pass rate of 97.5% was announced today.
The local success mirrors record breaking results nationwide.
The number of students gaining A*-B grades in St Helens this year is 30.8%, an increase of 4.3% on 2009, which is well above the national increase reported.
Most school sixth forms recorded significantly improved pass rates compared with 2009, which resulted in an overall 3 % increase in the number of students achieving A Level pass grades.
Rainford High Technology College is one of the first to report their results which saw an impressive overall pass rate of 99%.
Principal Ruth Halsall told the Star: "We are absolutely delighted with the results this year. We have the highest percentage we have ever had for many years. The vast majority of students got the grades they require to move to Higher Education. Thanks to students and staff who have worked hard to achieve an excellent set of results."
In addition Carmel College has once again reported outstanding results, which are well above the national average Director of Children and Young People’s Services for St Helens, Susan Richardson said: “This is a great success story for A Level students in St Helens”
“Our high schools don’t just offer A levels. Cowley has the International Baccalaureate and along with other high schools, offer BTECHs and Diplomas, creating a wide range of opportunities for all students to achieve their potential and help them prepare for further education or the workplace.”
Councillor Eric Smith, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Learning Services added: “This is a success story built on the hard work of staff and students in our schools and colleges. I would like to congratulate all the young people on their results and wish them well for their future. I must also thank parents for their continued support and commitment.”
