IT’S one year since Dream became the newest landmark on the St Helens skyline. And the attention-grabbing artwork is the focal point for a day of celebration on Sunday, May 30 involving hundreds of people from our local community and visitors from across the region.

A traditional Whit Walk organised by the Shining Lights Heritage Group has been planned complete with May Queen and her entourage, choir, ex-miners and their families and a dance performance. At 12.30pm the pageant will move to the summit of the hill to celebrate the first anniversary of Dream at 12.45pm and will be followed by a community gala day.

The 20 metre-high sculpture, by artist Jaume Plensa, is on the site of the former Sutton Manor Colliery.

Marian White from Shining Lights said: "This day is a celebration of all our traditions such as the Whit Walk procession, crowning of the May Queen and the way in which Dream also symbolises our hopes and aspirations for the future. We welcome all ex-miners and their families to attend the event and enjoy this historic day”.

THERE’S free parking at King George V Playing Field and Chester Lane Centre.
