ENGLAND might not be releasing an official song for this year’s World Cup…but that’s not stopped a bunch of St Helens rockers recording what they hope will prove a glorious soundtrack for South Africa 2010.

Emerging local band Titors Insignia and footballers from Junction FC have united for their offering ‘Three Lions on Fire’.

They hope the power of social networking website Facebook will help it become adopted as the England supporters’ anthem at stadiums in South Africa and raise bucketloads for charity.

Titors lead singer, Stu Ogden, 31, from Sutton Heath, said: “It’s stirring up quite a bit of interest already.

“We wrote the song and hope it will catch fire and be a big success. We’ve got a video planned are hopefully there’s a few big names going to be appear in it.”

Dave Jacks, co-reserve team manager and player at Junction FC, who sing the chorus, said: “It doesn’t seem as though England will be having a World Cup song.

“We want to become the people’s choice, the choice for England and be heard in the stadiums around South Africa.

“(But) at the same time we want to raise plenty for charity.”

Striker, Dave, 35, first took the Junction players to the studios to record a World Cup song back in 2002, and they’ve recorded other tracks to boost team morale.

He added: “I’ve been promising to get the lads in the charts for years. Now it could happen but we need all of St Helens behind us.”

Unsigned Titors, who are attracting interest from a record label, include 23-year-old lead guitarist Mark Pearce, from Sutton, plus teenager Lewis Sanderson, on bass guitar, and drummer Ste Swift (24), who are both from Thatto Heath.

The band’s unusual name is inspired by the myth surrounding John Titor, an internet user who posted on web messageboards in 2001 claiming to be a time traveller from the year 2036.

Titors hope that they can raise £50,000 for charity with the single and are spreading the word on its Facebook fan site which already has more than 2,000 members.

The song will be available for download from iTunes, Amazon, and Napster in May before the World Cup kicks off.
