LISTENERS to BBC Radio Merseyside on their way home from work can now tune into the voice of a ‘Sintelliner’ on the airwaves.
That’s after Simon Hoban took charge as the new host for the station’s Drivetime slot.
The 35-year-old, who is originally from Garswood, has made the switch from BBC Newcastle where he was a presenter.
Simon's previous jobs were as diverse as working in his dad’s meat van in Liverpool and playing piano in a cabaret band, before going on to study print journalism.
He cut his teeth as a reporter on titles in Leigh and Wigan before switching to broadcasting with Wirral-based commercial station Buzz FM.
From there Simon landed a job with BBC Newcastle, where he spent nine years reporting and presenting.
But the Saints fan says it’s great to back on his home patch and is keen to get stuck into the big issues and uncover some of the region’s untapped entertainment talent.
Simon said: “It’s brilliant, really exciting. The city (Liverpool) has changed immeasurably. I visited quite a lot, so I’ve seen some of the growth, but coming back, it’s really hit me. It’s vibrant and buzzing.
“On the show, I’ll be covering the stories that matter to Merseyside, with a focus on news, sport and entertainment.”
Tune into listen to Simon from 5pm to 7pm weekdays at BBC Radio Merseyside, 95.8FM, 1485AM and DAB digital radio.
