STRICTLY Come Dancing star Ricky Whittle has been questioned by officers at St Helens police station in connection with an alleged assault in Liverpool city centre, according to reports.
Police confirmed a 29-year-old man from Billinge has been interviewed following an alleged incident in Duke Street, Liverpool early this morning.
It is reported Whittle, from Billinge, went to St Helens Police Station voluntarily this morning.
He has now been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Earlier today a group of photographers were gathered on College Street, near St Helens Police station's custody unit.
Whittle is favourite to win Strictly. He split from Hollyoaks co-star, Carley Stenson, from St Helens, earlier this month.
A BBC spokeswoman confirmed Whittle will compete in Saturday's Strictly programme.
According to the Press Association, he had taken a break from training and returned to Liverpool, where Hollyoaks is filmed, to attend a party at the city centre's Parr Street Studios with colleagues from the Channel Four drama.
It is alleged that after the party at around 1.30am vehicle struck the photographer and left him with minor injuries.
It is reported the photographer declined immediate treatment but later took himself to a hospital where he was treated for minor injuries before being discharged.
