Dave Spikey and Ennio Marchetto headline St Helens Comedy Festival

GET ready for a good old giggle…St Helens Comedy Week is bouncing back into St Helens this October headlined by the ‘living cartoon’ Ennio Marchetto and Phoenix Nights star Dave Spikey.

Running from October 2-9 the week promises to fill venues with humour as some of the brightest stars in comedy take part in this fifth annual event.

The man known as the living cartoon, Ennio Marchetto, a quirky comic who does impressions of famous faces, will be kicking the show off with his only regional performance of the year at the Theatre Royal on Friday, October 2.

Radio Merseyside has put together a package of comedy treats especially for the comedy week, which will be taking place on Saturday, October 3 at the Theatre Royal.

This special show will be hosted by their very own Billy Butler and is set to feature comics such as Lennie Anderson, Pauline Daniels and Mickey Finn.

On October 4, Dave Spikey will bring his razor-sharp wit to The Theatre Royal while the homespun humour of St Helens born Dave Twentyman and Ray Peacock will feature in the Born ‘n’ Bred show at the Citadel on October 8.

Then the jokes will be literally taking place all over St Helens with popular attractions Bus Stop, Stand Up on Tuesday, October 6 at the Counting House and Drink Up, Stand Up on October 7 at The Zoo Bar, giving audiences the chance to move throughout the town either by bus or on foot as they go from pub to pub with some established and new comics.

And it’s not just the adults that will be able to join in the fun, there will be plenty for the town’s youngsters to get involved in as Stand Out, a showcase that allows junior comics to make their mark and follow in the footsteps of St Helens’ very own Johnny Vegas takes place on Monday October 5.

Pupils from St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School will be showing their comic potential in this year’s Stand Out at the school after spending six weeks in training.
