If one of Britain's most successful companies wants to open a store on the Acres and give 91 people much needed jobs, what's wrong with that? If you don't like Tesco, go ASDA or Morrisons.

A few years ago Safeways supermarkets were bought out by Morrisons, Morrisons were forced to sell the Safeway store in St Helens because the town would then have had 3 Morrisons stores in town.

We now have Tesco:- Earlstown, Haydock, Windle island, Dentons Green lane, Four Acre's and a new mega store that is part of the Saints new stadium project to replace the already existing store on Chalon way.

All we need now is for shoppers to shop local and we can rename the town "St Tesco"

Less than a generation ago the largest employer in St Helens would probably have been the Pilkington group, wonder who it is now ?

If Tesco went to the wall like Woolworths did, how many unemployed people would we have in St Helens ?
Where would people shop, local maybe ?

ummm...i hardly think this has much chance of happeneing really does it!!!

Its a bit like saying the pope might stand up, denounce jesus and set up a crystal shop in Markey Square!

And so what we live in Tesco land? its brough jobs to many, it offers lots of choice, its good value for money and as others said...dont like it go to ASDA, Morries (of which there are two!) or even better go to the town centre.....because thats a right mecca for good trade isnt it!

Tesco reported profits of £3bn for the last financial year. The largest ever recorded profit made by a British retailer. Comparing them to Woolies is unreasonable. St. Helens isn't blessed with massive employers any more so if one does come along offering employment to hundreds then good on them.

I live in sutton leach and would love to see tesco or any other big food retail outlet, the simple fact of the matter is Tesco bought the place and are acting for the community I say well done tesco. If you dont use tesco then it wouldnt put you out anyway, its not like putting it there is forcing morrison aor asda 20 miles further away. it would definitly save me from going to town for a tesco.

91 jobs and decent shops in four acre will be more than welcome...

91 jobs.... It may surprise you to know that when a company announces a jobs figure, like the 91 mentioned here, most of the time, the number employed from the locality is far fewer than the figure announced. The figure nearly all ways includes others in warehouse or offices on the other side of the country
