STUDENTS at Rainford College have been celebrating their super results after achieving an A-level pass rate of 97per cent.
Principal Ruth Halsall said: “I am delighted that our students have once again achieved so highly. The pass rate was 97per cent, with 40per cent of grades at A and B.
“Ten students achieved all grade As and two of our students scored within the top five marks nationally - Graham Hobbs for AQA Mathematics and Francesca Sephton for AQA ICT. More importantly these achievements at A-Level have enabled all our students to progress to university.
“Congratulations to all our students, and many thanks to all the staff who have worked hard to support and encourage the students to achieve so highly.”
Among Rainford’s success stories: Graham Hobbs achieved 6 As in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology and General Studies.
He also scored one of the top 5 marks in the country for Mathematics out of almost 12,000 students. Graham is going on to read Maths at Oriel College, Oxford.
Francesca Sephton gained 3 As in Mathematics, Biology and ICT and also scored one of the top 5 marks in the country for ICT out of almost 1,700 students.
She is going to read Speech Science at Sheffield University Elizabeth Kells gained 4 As in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology and is going to read Natural Science at Durham University Sarah Frodsham achieved 4 As in Chemistry, Biology, Geography and General Studies and is going to read Chemistry at Liverpool University.
Elizabeth Osborn won 3 As in Psychology, Media Studies and Textiles and will read Psychology at Leeds University Christopher Taylor got 3 As in Mathematics, Business Studies and ICTand is going to read Computing at Leeds University Danny Harrison achieved 5 As in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics and will read Medicine at Sheffield University
