CONSTANT torrential rain didn’t deter the town’s music fans who turned out in force to cheer on bands playing in the council’s free music festival, Eclectica 08.

The faithful endured the downpour to hear Shed Seven, the Levellers, Amsterdam and The Maybes? and others in Victoria Square.

As well as the big names, Eclectica also showed off some top young musical talent from St Helens: The Cubical, Ghengis Grimes, Mama Beani, The Hang Project, Streetwaves St Helens 08 winner - Red Orchestra, local school bands - Silent Thunder and Ariel Chambers.

Organiser Gary Maddock of St Helens Council said that despite the weather, Eclectica 08 had been a monster success.
