Park attack victim Craig now ‘improving slowly’

POLICE say the condition of Sherdley Park attack victim Craig Rooney is ‘improving slowly’, some six-weeks after he was brutally assaulted.

As previously reported in the Star, the 18-year-old apprentice engineer was savagely kicked and beaten by a gang of youths near to Pets Corner in the park on the evening of Thursday, May 22.

The attack left Craig fighting for his life at the Walton Neurological Centre - a specialist head injuries unit in Liverpool - and needing emergency surgery to relieve the pressure on his brain.

A major police investigation being run from St Helens Police Station has so far seen 11 teenagers arrested and bailed in connection with the incident.

  • Anyone with information about the incident, who has not yet come forward, is urged to call the major incident room on 0151 777 1507 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
