Goldenheart returns cabbie's lost cash

A GRATEFUL taxi driver has praised the honesty of townsfolk after someone handed in £40 that he left in a supermarket trolley.

After finishing an early-morning shift at around 9.30am on Friday, November 9, Tom Tatlock (47), a driver with A to B taxis, unclipped his plastic money sorter containing the cash and placed it on the trolley as he strode into Tesco in St Helens town centre.

It was only when he started work again the next day that he realised he had no change.

Tom, who has recently moved back to St Helens after living in Thailand for two years, said: "Then it dawned on me what had happened. I went back to the shop, but they hadn't opened the lost and found drawer, so I had to go back an hour later.

"I was really annoyed with myself but I was gobsmacked when I went back and the woman said: Here it is.' They had no idea who handed it in."

Tom, former owner of Tom's Gym in Lowfield Lane, Lea Green, added: "If the person who handed it in is reading this I would like to personally thank them.

"It's people like that who restore your faith in human nature. There are a lot of honest people about, especially in St Helens."
