A MASKED armed robber struck at an off-licence demanding money and cigarettes before making off.

A man entered the High Spirits off-licence on Wargrave Road, Newton-le-Willows on Tuesday night with his face covered armed with a knife.

The man, who had his face covered is described as having a deep local accent, being of medium build, wearing a black jacket with grey sleeves and black bottoms. He is also reported to have been carrying a knife.

The man is said to have demanded cash from the till and cigarettes before making off towards Victoria Road.

The robbery took place just before 10pm.

Detective Inspector Louise Birchall said: “Although officers are currently undertaking extensive house to house and CCTV enquiries to trace the person responsible, we need the public’s help to come forward with any information they might have to help with our investigations.
