THE best and worst GP practices in St Helens borough have been revealed.

Its highest and lowest ranked surgeries have been named in a new patient satisfaction survey.

The GP Patient Survey rated Kenneth Macrae Medical Centre in Rainford as the top surgery, with 99 per cent of patients describing their experience of it as “good”.

Lingholme Medical Centre on Atherton Street was joint second with 98 per cent.

Dr Rahil’s Surgery in Haydock and Hall Street Medical Centre in St Helens followed closely behind with 96 per cent. Billinge Medical Practice on Recreation Drive came bottom with 66 per cent.

Collectively, 84 per cent of residents rated the borough’s CCG’s surgeries as “good”, the same as the national average.

The England-wide survey provides practice-level data about patient experiences of their GP practices, looking at waiting times, care quality, opening times, making appointments and out of hours services.

A total of 3,823 people completed the survey in the borough, 37 per cent of those who were sent the questionnaire.

Hall Street Medical Centre and Lingholme Medical Centre were joint top for how helpful their receptionists are after receiving a perfect score of 100 per cent. Billinge Medical Practice propped up the table with 69 per cent.

Lingholme Medical Centre was top again in being able to get through on the phone with them scoring 100 per cent. Mill Street Medical Centre finished bottom with a rating of 37 per cent.

In providing support for long-term medical conditions, Rainford Health Centre on Higher Lane and Hall Street Medical Centre was joint top with 98 per cent. Bowery Medical Centre on Elephant Lane was bottom with 66 per cent.

Dr Rahil’s Surgery and Bethany Medical Centre on Grafton Street shared the top of the charts for having the easiest online services to use with a perfect 100 per cent ranking.

Billinge Medical Practice was bottom with 42 per cent.
