MEET the great-grandmother who is still entertaining her friends on the piano.

Margaret Stephen has celebrated her 100th birthday at a Penketh care home surrounded by family and friends.

Mrs Stephen, who grew up in Orford but lived in Stockton Heath for most of her life, marked the milestone on Friday at Meadow View Care Home.

The former housewife was joined by members of her family, including her four children, Barbara, Pam, Andrew and Paul, five grandchildren and her nine great grandchildren who are all aged from new born to 24.

Margaret, who was married to husband Arthur for more than 40 years, was also joined by nephew Christopher Edmondson as part of the celebrations on Finley Avenue.

Christopher, who has always referred to Margaret as Aunt Betty, said: "I have known her my whole life. She has outlived everyone she knew.

"She has always had a good memory and she could converse over any subject. Her knowledge was very good."

Sybil Thorn, activities coordinator at Meadow View, said: "Margaret likes doing oil paintings, sewing and plays the piano for all the other residents.

"She also loves walking around the home so I think that's why she is so fit for 100.

"Her favourite jewellery is a pearl necklace that she always wears, which she said was her mother's. She loves it.”
