A PLANNING application has been drawn up which is seeking permission to build 75 care apartments for elderly people at the site of former NHS buildings.

The proposed development include 27 one-bed apartments; 41 two-beds; five three-beds and two penthouses at the site on Cowley Hill Lane, near to Victoria Park.

Plans state the "mix of apartment types is carefully considered to suit anticipated demand for this particular development and location".

The proposals are for a three-storey development, with the massing to step down a storey "due to the natural topography of the site".

The application adds each apartment will be wheelchair accessible and there will be 49 parking spaces, including six disabled slots, for residents, staff and visitors, which is stated to be "appropriate to the location, proposed occupancy and use".

Proposed facilities included in the plans are a residents' lounge; coffee lounge; table service restaurant; reception area; hair salon and adjoining treatment room; an activities suite; spa suite and internal mobility scooter store.

Plans state the scheme "represents the most effective and efficient use" with "the ability for residents to contribute to supporting local shops and services".

Its is said plans aim to provide an "attractive setting" and "protect and enhance the setting of Victoria Park" with the development to be "perceived visually as an extension to the park".

The proposals have been submitted by Gladman Retirement Living Ltd, which has care and nursing facilities across the country.

Plans state Adlington, a specialist brand of Gladman, aim to "meet the current and future needs of older people who are in need of care, by constructing specialist developments that will enhance the local environment".

The plans are on consultation until Friday, August 24.
