THE hosts of this weekend’s Challenge Cup semi-finals have reassured rugby fans that food and drink will be available in the stadium during the games, despite a legal dispute with caterers.

Bolton Wanderers’ Macron Stadium is set to host Warrington Wolves’ clash with Leeds Rhinos and the tie between St Helens and Catalan Dragons on Sunday, August 5.

But the Trotters have become embroiled in a legal dispute with stadium caterers Heathcotes, leading to fears that food and drink may not be available for fans attending the showpiece event.

Heathcotes has instigated legal action in order to recover ‘significant and escalating debt’, while Wanderers are alleging a number of ‘recent serious breaches’ of their catering contract.

In a statement, club chairman Ken Anderson has moved to reassure the near sell-out crowd that refreshments will be available on the day.

He said: “It is important to note that this dispute will have no adverse impact on our hosting of the rugby league Challenge Cup semi-finals and the start to the Sky Bet Championship campaign.

“However, we will insisted on an undertaking from Heathcotes that they will operate in accordance with the agreement and no further breaches will occur.

“In the event that this undertaking is not forthcoming, we have alternative arrangements in place.

“It is unfortunate that we have had to take this course of action, but recent events and the continuing serious breaches of the agreement left us with no alternative.”
