THE parents of Violet-Grace Youens are urging others to turn up to a fundraising event set up in their daughter's memory this Sunday, July 22.

Four-year-old Violet-Grace Youens, from Eccleston, died in March 2017 after she was struck by a speeding car while walking home from nursery with her gran.

Just four months after the tragedy her mum and dad Becky and Glenn, as well as members of the St Helens community, organised a bike ride to raise funds for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and Whiston Hospital - called Ride 4 Violet-Grace.

Hundreds of bikers, riders and cyclists headed out in convoy in her memory, raising more than £13,000.

This Sunday, it is all set to happen again, with cyclists and motorbikes setting out to Whiston at noon from the Saints stadium, before the motorcyclists head to Alder Hey to thank them for trying to save Violet.

The day will also include a huge fun day from 10am at the stadium including bouncy castles, exotic animals and an assault course for all the family to enjoy.

Violet's mum and dad Becky and Glenn, said: "The support we’ve received as a family has helped us through our darkest days.

"We’d like to thank every single person who’s been involved from last year event to this one.

"There’s so many people involved in organising it, who want to keep Violet's memory alive.

"Some of these people never knew Violet but through her passing they have got to know her and what kind of child she was.

"This event would not be possible with out every single one of them and the whole community pulling together in memory of our beautiful daughter Violet-Grace once again.

"We'd like to thank everyone who shows up and takes part on Sunday as well as everyone who has made the event possible.

"From all the organisers, local businesses, family, friends and who have given up there free time to help this is keeping Violet's memory alive."

Adults and children are encouraged to wear superhero outfits on the day as tribute to Violet-Grace, who is known as a superhero - after she saved two lives by becoming an organ donor.

Organ donation is a key theme of the day, with a life sized game of operation to highlight the need for donors and well as advice for people to discuss whether they would like to become and organ donor in the future.

The funds raised will go towards Violet-Grace’s Gift, a charity supporting organ donation set up in her memory.
