A HUNDRED cyclists got in the saddle on Sunday to take part in Willowbrook Hospice's annual Ride 45 challenge.

Now in its fifth year, the Ride saw professional and club cyclists get in gear with leisure riders and families to help raise much-needed funds needed for the Portico based hospice.

Starting and finishing at Rainford Technology College, the Ride took in scenic views of the St Helens, Knowsley and West Lancashire countryside.

First past the post was Jason McCallum from Bolton who crossed the line in just under two and a half hours.

Fundraising officer and event organiser Carl Davies from Willowbrook Hospice, said: “It was a fantastic day with lots of positive feedback from those taking part in this year’s Ride 45.

"On behalf of Willowbrook I’d like to thank and congratulate everyone who took part, including all of the volunteers who gave up their free time to help make the event such a success.

"We’d also like to say a special thank you to all the organisations which helped make this year’s ride such a success including Rainhill Technology College, Thatto Cycles, John Gedde Cycles, Geoff Brown (Masprint) and Home to Office Water Coolers.

"Every penny raised from the Ride will go towards helping ensure that we can to continue to care for local people and their families across St Helens and Knowsley.”
