RESIDENTS may soon be able to watch councillors in action from the comfort of their own home.

St Helens Council holds numerous meetings every week, including various panels that scrutinise the work of the authority.

While members of the public are free to attend, the council does not currently stream the meetings online, a practice that is adopted by some other councils.

A notice on the council’s website says a delegated  administrative decision has been taken by a council officer to connect webcasting solutions to room 10 in St Helens town hall, where the majority of meetings are held, to enable public meetings to be live streamed via the council's website.

It is understood the council is in the early stages of assessing the new service out.

A council spokesman was unable to confirm when the feature will be operational.
