WALKERS are invited to don their trainers for a community trek around the parish boundary of Rainhill this Sunday (July 22).

The 'Beating the Bounds' event has been organised by a group of residents called Rainhill Together.

People are invited to either walk the full five miles or complete a section.

It is hoped Rainhill Together will be developed into a group that people can turn to if they are lonely, bereaved or have other issues that leave them feeling isolated.

Accompanied children and dogs on leads are all welcome.

Beating the Bounds tradition which dates back more than 1,000 years to before the Norman invasion and saw people perambulate the boundaries of their parish, as communities came together for a jovial experience.

The walk will leave Manor Farm car park at 10am, expected to finish back at Manor Farm after midday.

The route will be:

  • First stretch:

Manor Farm to Holt Pub arriving at approx 10.30am

This stretch is all pavements and suitable for prams etc.

  • Second stretch:

Holt Pub to Black Horse arriving at approx 10.55am. This stretch is mainly pavement with a short footpath section over the Medieval Packhorse Bridge.

  • Third stretch:

Black Horse to Coach and Horses arriving at approx 11.05am. This is a short pavement stretch suitable for those less mobile.

  • Fourth stretch:

Coach and Horses to the Micklehead Green arriving at approximately 11.30 am. This is over rougher ground on a field footpath and involves steps. Not suitable for prams.

  • Fifth and final stretch:

Micklehead Green to Manor Farm arriving there shortly after 12 noon. This is a pavement stretch.

It is not intended for those doing the full walk to stop at all the pubs but they are suitable places to join or leave the walk for those only doing a section or two.

All times are approximate and participants will have a well-earned drink at the Manor for those completing that section.
