A KIND-hearted family friend is taking part in a 100km bike ride tonight to raise funds in memory of three-year-old Jake Stanley who died after being given a drug overdose for treating a seizure.

Jake Stanley, of Windle Hall Drive, Windlehurst, died in January 2017 after he was given a drug overdose at Whiston Hospital, a coroner ruled this week.

After his death, his mum and dad Anne-Marie and Ian Stanley, along with his four siblings received support from Child Bereavement UK, which they said helped them get through that "terrible time".

To thank the charity, Anne-Marie's colleague Sarah Foster, from Liverpool, IS taking on the Liverpool Nightrider, which is a 100km bike ride around the Wirral and Liverpool loop at night tonight, Saturday, July 14.

Jake's mum Anne-Marie, said: "What happened to us could really happen to anyone, it wasn't expected at all

"We are honoured that Sarah has decided to do this in memory for Jake, it's like giving him a legacy to help others.

"When he died, Child Bereavement UK looked after him in a lovely homey room, where we could visit him for a week along with his siblings.

"He was in a lovely bed and that time really helped us come to terms with what had happened and give us time together.

"They arranged support for us and counselling not only for us but the children as well.

"I know Sarah has done events like this before but for her to do it for Jake is so amazing and I know he would have been proud of her too.

"Please help her raise as much as she can in his memory to help others going through what we did."

Sarah added: "This is very close to my heart as Anne-Marie and her family went through the unthinkable when their beautiful little boy Jake unexpectedly passed away.

"The Alder Centre which is funded by Child Bereavement UK offered support to them when they needed it the most , they also provide family weekends away, memorial services and send Christmas cards, but most importantly Child Bereavement UK is there for children and adults following the death of a child or parent providing services such as counselling and helping them to better understand and met the needs of grieving families.

"When someone passes away it’s hard to know what to say to someone it’s even harder when it’s a child.

"This is my way of supporting Anne-Marie and her family and letting them know Jake will never be forgotten, no one could ever forget his beautiful smile and cheeky face."
