FIREFIGHTERS battled a house fire for more than five hours yesterday morning, Sunday.

Three fire engines were sent to Warrington Road in Rainhill at around 3.50am where most of the property had been destroyed.

The ground floor lounge and kitchen were completely engulfed by the blaze, as well as two bedrooms and one bathroom on the first floor.

The roof and loft space was also severely damaged.

Two adjourning houses were also affected by the fire. One of property's ground floors including the hallway was damaged while the other home's first floor bathroom was caught up in the blaze.

Crews used two pumps at the front of the site and one at the rear.

They finished extinguishing the flames at around 6am but carried on damping down hotspots until 9.10am.

No-one was hurt in the incident.

Police are treating the fire as arson.
