THE recent bout of hot weather has been blamed for delays to recycling collections affecting hundreds of homes in St Helens.
Waste collection services failed to collect recycling waste at around 300 different locations on Thursday.
A council spokesman said the service has seen a spike in recyclable materials due to the hot weather and said staff will be working up until Saturday to collect the waste.
The spokesman said: “With the hot weather we’re currently experiencing, we’re seeing a significant increase in the amount of recyclable items such as glass bottles and cardboard.
“Several crews – who walk on average between eight to 10 miles a day – are out working hard in the challenging weather conditions and will be working up until Saturday to rectify the issue.
“The council apologises for any inconvenience caused and would advise residents whose collections have been affected by delays to keep their recycling out for the teams to collect at the earliest opportunity.”
